I got an old roll of fax paper at a garage sale a while back, thinking for 25cents I was bound to be able to use it for something. It was useful for this! I drew out the uppercase alphabet in order on the fax paper using a sharpie pen and taped it to the kitchen floor, then wrote out the lower case letters on some index cards and the kids coloured them in with crayons and matched them up with the correct upper case letters. I guess I could have encouraged them to colour the upper case and corresponding lower case letter in the same colour, but they were having too much fun doing the multicoloured thing.
It would be easy enough to make a smaller board game type version of this, or even some sort of bingo game where the kids have to find the upper case letter on their board from the lower case letter drawn at random. If I get around to figuring out a board game then I'll post it here too.
Great idea, I bet my letter-obsessed daughter would love this! She doesn't always "get" lower-case letters, so it would also be a good learning experience for her.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea too, way to make learning fun!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea - my three-year-old is solid on her uppercase letters, but still mastering the lowercase. This would be fun to try with her!
ReplyDeleteAnother great idea. I'm a subscriber now! I've also featured this post and two others on my blog, The Handmade Experiment. Check it out at http://emilyflippinmaruna.wordpress.com/2009/06/12/inspiration-wednesday-on-uhm-friday/
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the inspiration!
Cool article as for me. I'd like to read something more concerning this topic. Thanx for posting that data.
